CHAUDHRY SHUJAT HUSSAIN

Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, a political icon in Pakistan, has a political career stretching over 25 years and belongs to a family that has always supported military rulers. Although he is generally perceived as somewhat politically inarticulate and suffering from poor health, he has nevertheless proved himself to be a politician. Today, he is not that popular as he lost in the recent General Elections but he is still determined to serve Pakistan with more commitment and dedication. His family had no political background until father Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi, a lower middle class man, became a local councillor in the early 1950s. The family is now an industrial powerhouse, involved in sugar, textiles, flour mills and agriculture. Elahi connected his family to the elite of the country through a web of marriages. The family was always prepared to join hands with military rulers, serving Gen Ayyub Khan (1958-68), Gen Zia ul-Haq (1977-88) and now Gen Pervez Musharraf (since Oct 1999). Chaudry Shujat Hussain was born on January 27, 1946. He Graduated from Forman Christian College, University of Punjab in 1967 and obtained degree in Industrial Management Course from the United Kingdom. Chaudhry Shujaat is heading the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). He belongs to an influential political family. His father late Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi was a seasoned parliamentarian who played a major role in restoration of democracy and human rights in the country and was awarded "PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE" by the Amnesty International. Late Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi was assassinated in a terrorist attack on 25th September, 1981. He entered politics in the year 1981 and became Member of Federal Parliament Majlis-e-Shoora (1982-85). Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has held many a portfolios of Federal Ministers in his political career.
 

Mushahid Hussain Sayed

Mushahid Hussain (also known as Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Syed Mushahid Hussain) was elected to the Senate of Pakistan in 2003 and is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He was also selected the Secretary General of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Pakistan's predominant political party. Mushahid at age 29 was the youngest Editor of a major newspaper, the Muslim (now defunct), published from Islamabad, Pakistan, and he led Pakistan's delegation to the UN Human Rights Commission at Geneva. Amnesty International in 1999 declared Mushahid as a Prisoner of conscience. Released in December 2000, Mushahid had been held in detention for 440 days. Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi (born November 1, 1945) was the Chief Minister of the Pakistan's most populous province Punjab, since November 29, 2002 till 2007. He is tipped to become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan and is part of the clique called "Chaudhrys of Gujrat." Background: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is the nephew of late Pakistani politician Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi. He is from a political and business family, commonly referred to as Chaudhrys of Gujrat belonging to the Ruler Jatt clan of Warraich and sub-clan of Natt. He belongs to the Sardar of Jatts of Pakistan and fourth generation Rulers...after Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, Sardar Arif Nakai and Chaudhri Zahoor Ilahi, Shaheed all have ruled this country with honor, vigor and boldness. His cousin and brother-in-law, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan from May to August 2004. He is the parliamentary leader of the ruling PML party. Education: He studied at Forman Christian College completed graduation in 1967, and obtained a diploma in Industrial Management from the University of London. Political career: He become chairman of the Gujrat district council in 1983; and has been serving as an MPA (Member of Provincial Assembly) of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab since 1985. He served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development during 1985-88, 1988-90 and 1990-93. He was Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly during 1993-96, and also the Leader of the Opposition later. He was the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly during 1997-99.
